1. What made you want to compete?
I have always had a desire to be fit, and I’ve always been a competitive person. When you put those two together it just makes sense to compete! I have a passion for weight lifting and being able to go up on stage and share the love for my passion with thousands of people is truly a blessing. I was always the “fat kid”. Ive put so much work and time into becoming healthy and strong and I want to inspire others with my fitness journey. Getting up on stage and competing is a HUGE step for me in facing my fears and overcoming obstacles that are inevitable in life.

2. What do you do to stay inspired?
To stay inspired I surround myself with motivating and positive people. I follow a ton of fitness pages on Instagram as well. Seeing motivating posts through out the day always keeps my mind focused on my goals.

3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
This will be my first time competing. I already know I’ll love the thrill of being on stage, so hopefully competing on all kinds of stages around the country is in my future.

4. Who got you started?
I was never really a health nut or into fitness until I joined the military. Obviously during Basic Training the Drill Sergeants kicked by butt into gear, but my passion for lifting didn’t start until my deployment. I started by running every day. Another soldier from my unit pointed out to me that weight lifting would improve my runs. Keep in mind I had always been “the fat kid”, so I didn’t have a CLUE where to even begin when it came to the gym. So he invited me to go with him and he showed me more and more every day. Since then, the gym has been my sanctuary and thats how it all began.

5. Who do you look to for help now?
I have the most wonderful coaches, Sean and Tiffany Larson! They are so motivating, encouraging, knowledgable, kindhearted people, and the list goes on!

6. Where do you usually workout?
I go to LAFitness. I love it there!

7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)
Since starting my training with Sean and Tiffany I have not been using any kind of pre workout. I take vitamins (multivitamin, BCAAS, Fish oil, baby aspirin) in the morning and in the earlier stages of my prep I drank Whey protein shakes.

8. What are your most noticeable results?
It’s hard to say! My body has changed so much, but I’d probably say my abdomen. My arms would be a close second.

9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Drastically!! One word… Confidence! I have more confidence in myself and it shows! Being fit puts me in a better mood, I feel better throughout the day, and going shopping is no longer a cruel form of punishment for me. People who I used to look up to are now coming to me and asking how I did it, and what advice do I have for them. I can’t even begin to describe to you that feeling, but its a wonderful one! I look forward to going to the gym. I love trying new and challenging exercises, or getting tips from people who have competed before and have the same passion for fitness as I do! Day to day life has changed for me because of fitness. My relationships, my overall outlook on life, achieving goals in school and my career, everything.

10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
Competing on stage is my first goal. Once this show is over I would love to start powerlifting. I want to be strong and healthy, thats my biggest goal!

11. Describe your diet.
I eat about six meals a day. Ill wake up at 7 and start my day with some egg whites and oats which is by far my favorite meal! Because I’m in the last stage of prep, that is the only time ill consume carbs. The rest of my meals consist of 1-2 cups of vegetables and 4 oz of lean meat (chicken, ground turkey, etc.).

12. What does your workout schedule look like?
Every morning I do 30-60 minutes of fasted cardio. My muscle groups are broken down by days of the week.
Monday- Legs
Tuesday- Chest and Shoulders
Wednesday- Back and Abs
Thursday- Only Fasted Cardio
Friday- Glute Day
Satruday- Arms and Abs
Sunday- Only Fasted Cardio
After every training session I finish with 25 minutes of HIIT. I alternate between the stair stepper, the elliptical and the treadmill.

13. What do you do for a living?
I am a 68w Combat Medic in the United States Army. I also work at LAFitness Gym and go to school full time at Goodwin College. I am currently enrolled in the Nursing Program.

14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
I’d like to graduate with my RN from Goodwin College and from there further my education in the medical field of labor and delivery. Once I receive my RN, I plan on going officer within my unit and being a PA for the 248 ENG CO.

15. Have you participated in any other sports?
I played basketball and volleyball in high school. However, if i play sports now its pick up games and with my friends or family.

16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
Big Thank-you to my coaches SEAN AND TIFFANY LARSON!!
My boyfriend, Ricky. He’s never been anything but supportive and encouraging. (He also knows how to handle me when I get hangry.. keeper!)
My siblings, Thank you Tricia, Forrest, Brittany, Courtney, and Sierra for keeping me motivated and sane when I crave everything under the sun. And even little man, Aiden. You keep me smiling! Love you all.
Mom & Carlos, Dad & Marlo – You raised me to be a disciplined, hardworking and passionate with everything I do in life. Without those things this dream of mine wouldn’t be possible. Love you!
And of course my LAFitness Fam!

17. Do you have any hobbies?
I dont really have hobbies. I dont collect anything or take up an interest for photography or anything like that. Family, food, fitness is what I’m all about.

18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
My schedule can by challenging at times. I work six days a week and go to school full time which takes up so much of my energy and time. I also have a wicked bad sweet tooth.. thank God for that discipline!!

19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
In my case, I had to reach the point of total discontentment with my body and how I felt to come to the realization that I needed to make the change. Of-course I always WANTED a fit, toned body, but never bad enough to do what it takes to get that dream body. It doesn’t matter if others give you advice or even all the tools you need to succeed. YOU have to want it and YOU have to do what it takes to get it!! Having the discipline and consistency will make the difference. At first it was difficult to adjust to the lifestyle and different eating habits as well as making the gym a priority. But when you want it bad enough, you’ll do what it takes.

20. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
