1. What made you want to compete?
For many years I had always wanted to compete. Starting in my mid-twenties….I would pick up every magazine I could find and read up on fitness, healthy eating, exercises and study the athletes competing…always deep down thinking…man, I want to do that. I had never told anyone…not even my parents, sister, best friend or husband. As the years went on I continued to work out and dream about body building and before I knew it I was married, had two wonderful little boys worked and worked and never had time to fulfill that dream.

IN 2011 and after many years of a mentally abusive husband, I finally got divorced, was 50 years old, and was taking care of my two now grown men (as they keep reminding me…22 and 20,) along with a beautiful grandson, three dogs, my own business as well as my own house. So to say I am busy is putting it lightly…but still my dream of bodybuilding was there.

I have always worked out and one day while at my local gym I saw a poster advertising a local body building show. I decided to go and “observe”….well…that was it for me. I sat in the audience and was mesmerized by the phenomenal bodies I saw. I had no idea what questions to ask, how to get started or what to do. I hung around after the show and found my way to the right people running the show. That show was the DFAC..Drug Free Athletic Coalition I got information of where I could go to start talking to someone about training and competing…..and well….here I am… only 15 months later…living my dream…..and I have never been happier.

2. What do you do to stay inspired?
I surround myself with positive people.

What inspires me are the people around me. I constantly get stopped and asked to give tips, suggestions etc. on how to stay in shape. Those who have known me for years have seen my transformation and want to do the same. People who don’t know me see that I fit and healthy and also want the same. They tell me at 52 years old I am their inspiration. The truth is they are my inspiration….my sons, my family friends and all those around me inspire me to continue to be the best I can so I can help them be the best they can be. Their success is my success and inspiration.

3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
A. The first show I did was in Oct 2012…the NGA in New Jersey. I came in 2nd in Masters and 3rd in open. It was a small show, but got me up on that stage….a stage that I will be on for quite some time.
B. The DFAC in May 2013 came in first in Masters
C. The INBF in Boston June 2013 came in first in classic figure in the over 50 class
D. Most recently won first place in women over 50 class and the Laura London Fit and Fabulous mom contest and 4th in the Ruby Championship which was held in the same place the same weekend. Of Sept 27/28 2013.

My future is WBFF New England 2013 !!!!!!

4. Who got you started?
After seeing a poster at Club Fit, the gym I belong to, I went to observe my first live body building show. The DFAC, Drug Free Athletic Coalition….Once I took the plunge into learning about body building and competing, Michael Liposwski at Pure Physique in Shrub Oak New York started training me…..he is the owner of the gym that was part of the first competition that I observed. They taught me so much there and for a full year I trained with Beth Colucci. She was fantastic, kicked my you know what and literally help me transform my body.
I was on my path in reaching my goal….

Having been a Monica Brant fan for many years I attended her F.E.M. camp and learned so much about the industry, posing, fitness and healthy eating. She has inspired me for many years and still continues to do so. I recently became part of Brick House Bodies with the wonderful Tabitha Sierra.
I had heard from others at Pure Physique about her and signed on a few months ago. Tabitha is clearly a pro. Her passion and dedication is outstanding and she is constantly going beyond the call of duty. All the beautiful ladies in Brick House Bodies have truly become my second family. The team covers everything needed to be the best you can in a highly competitive sport.

5. Who do you look to for help now?
I continue to go directly to Tabitha Sierra of BHB and my family/team members. I also consult with Monica Brant….having participated in her F.E.M., Jennifer Nicole Lee and Laura London

6. Where do you usually workout?
Currently personally train with Tabitha Sierra as well as work out at Club Fit in Jefferson Valley for strength training on my own along with choreographed Dance and cardio workouts.

8. What are your most noticeable results?
My energy level has skyrocketed. I have always been known as energetic, …bubbly as they say……but now with the diet, weight training …the whole package….it’s crazy how great I feel.

My body shape continues to transform from a pear shape into a proportioned healthy fit shape

9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Absolutely….as well as the peoples around me life…..I think for me changing the way I eat and train brought me to a completely new level …mentally I am more relaxed, less stressed and simply……Happy… life is still completely full and crazy, but yet It’s all good…’s crazy how good I feel…..and it pours out of me which is why when people are around me they want what I have …and I tell them…they can have it….I tell them I use to dream about being this fit and healthy and that after my marriage and divorce I did not feel good about myself…like most do after an abusive relationship……but I worked hard, saw results and I became my own hero and changed my life…..there is only one thing I can completely control…..and that is me……and right now I am happy with ME …it took a long time but I did it…..and if I can do it….anyone can. So I tell all who come in contact with me……all those who want to change or reach a specific goal……

Don’t Just dream It…..Do It….

10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
I know exactly how I want my body to look and feel …my mind is already there…now I work to continue to reshape and reach my individual goal. I want more and more…..

The name of my company is XtraSales…… I do all the IP and network training for my distributor’s dealers and end users. My oldest son has now joined my firm doing the same.

16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
There is only one thing that makes me happier then dancing and working out…and that is sharing time with my family….and friends. I cannot tell you how blessed I am to have two such wonderful boys, Stephen 22 and Nicholas 20 who have stood by my side through hard times…very hard times….and continue to stick with me even when I am having a mid-life crisis “episode” as they call it….and have stood by my side during these menopausal stages….lol. They are truly wonderful boys. My sister her husband and my niece have all been a part of my transformation, understanding the way I eat…or as my sister says “don’t eat”…lol….and how hard I train. They don’t understand it totally, but respect me and what I do. And my friends….it is unbelievable how supportive they are. I have to tell you the biggest reason I personally never said anything about wanting to compete is that I truly thought people would look at me like I was crazy….I knew no one else who wanted to do this so felt completely intimated and didn’t say a word. I couldn’t have been more wrong….I felt like a closet bodybuilder waiting to “come out”… my friends completely stand behind me, come to my competitions whenever they can and admire and respect what I do.
I am truly blessed….and love them all

17. Do you have any hobbies?
I love to dance , absolutely adore cooking, even when I can’t eat what I cook…I golf a little, like to do the Spartan races, enjoy reading, drawing and love going to movies

18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
I am a very successful business woman….and in high demand for my knowledge of networking and for the brands/manufacturers I represent in my industry, I have grown up with all the guys in my territory for the past over 25 years. They rely on me as I do them They are how I can eat and pay the bills. I am my own payroll and have worked for myself for all these years. So they say jump and I say how high. My success is also my cross …..So finding the time away from my full time job to do my fitness goals job which in itself is also a full time job has been challenging. But I do it. And now with my son working with me I am able to slip away a little bit more often as the customers become more and more comfortable with him. Again….I look up and say to my higher power on a daily basis….thank you….I am blessed.

19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
Being a women in a man’s world – I started in my industry in my mid-twenties…back then it was unheard of for a women to be in the electronic field. So when I decided to open up my own firm the word on the street was “she won’t last” Well I not only lasted I “outlasted” most men in my industry having maintained relationships with my manufactures for over 20-25 years. I am the oldest rep….in age yes…but in longevity…with three of the companies I represent. Toshiba being the most popular.

Now the men in the industry tell my son to work hard like me and to follow my path and footsteps It is such a great feeling when you work hard and gain the respect of your peers.

20. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
In closing I would be honored to be a part of the WBFF organization and to bring to women and men the ability to know where to go to achieve their goals and especially for them to know that
in closing here is a link to an interview I did from the Laura London Fit and Fabulous Mom Contest which I won first place in for women over 50. It was an honor to be a part of this wonderful event.

I started competing and training at 51 years old….
It is never to late to start…

my aphorism

Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity.
