1. What made you want to compete?
Over the past year and a half, I have changed my life style to be healthy and fit. The main reason for competing was to continue this journey and challenge myself. I love a good challenge and thrive on experiences – everyday for the past 14 weeks has been a challenge and an experience well worth the journey.

2. What do you do to stay inspired?
To stay inspired I think of those that I love and those that are not able to do what I can do. I lost my sister Liisa almost twelve years ago to kidney failure. During her illness, she never quit – every day she had this unbelievable strength to still wake up in the morning no matter what obstacles she faced, raise her son and did everything she possibly could to still smile, laugh and make the most out of life. Liisa had this admirable strength that I carry with me everyday, I figure hey if she could do it feeling weak and sick – anyone can do it including me. That admirable strength has brought me much success in life and I hope to pass this on to my son Nathaniel.

3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
WBFF in Providence on Nov 9th is my first show and I am so excited for the experience and the people. I definitely see this as a yearly adventure – I had so much fun with this, my coach Kelley Tyan not only keeps us in check, but gives us all the tools that we need to make this happen.

4. Who got you started?
Kelley Tyan of Worcester, MA is responsible for my success. I started boot camp with Kelley last February and she has inspired me to keep pushing myself further and further to reach my goals. I laughed at her when she first asked me if I would consider competing, but as I gave it more thought -I am like this is the best opportunity ever, go for it girl.

5. Who do you look to for help now?
I have an AMAZING support system. My 11.5 year old son Nathaniel always supports me in all that I do, but he has been a real trooper with eating clean, running 5Ks and keeping an eye on what I am doing. He is so proud of me. I also have a handful of close family and friends that are just so good to me, they keep me going everyday from funny quotes to trying Nick’s weird food of the day to just listening to me vent. I love them dearly. Others are my coach Kelley Tyan and another competitor Shannon Dickieson who has been training with me as well – we lean on each other all the time. I am very lucky to have such wonderful people to experience this journey with me.

6. Where do you usually workout?
My second home is Everybody’s Fitness in Auburn, MA and Kelley’s Bootcamp for Women in Worcester, MA.

7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)
If any, I take Isagenix Vitamins occasionally.

8. What are your most noticeable results?
My upper body was the most noticeable, it has always been the part of the body to see almost instant results.

9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Fitness has changed my life considerably. A year and a half ago, I decided to take control of my weight and eat clean. I have maintained this lifestyle ever since and have lost 47 pounds. The best part besides losing weight is feeling good, inspiring friends and family to make better choices about what they eat and I am the healthiest I have ever been. Referred to as being “fit” or “athletic” is OK by me. I will take that compliment any day.

10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
My personal fitness goals I have set for myself are to continually push myself to do more whether its run another mile in a race, add more weight, or attempt new challenges. Never get bored with a workout routine, food or give up.

13. What do you do for a living?
I am an Account Executive for a marketing communications company. I help companies reduce costs, save time and increase sales through analyzing and optimizing their marketing strategies using technology and best practices.

14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
My personal non-fitness goals are to continue being the best mom I can be to Nathaniel. Other than that, I really need to think hard about this – my last two goals took forever and they just happened between last fall and now. I graduated with B.A. in Business from Assumption College, Worcester, MA and I just bought my first home in July.

Next would be for professional growth and improvement. For the past few years I have taken a step back from attending shows and seminars on the latest trends and technology and I would really like to be my focus for 2014. Perhaps looking into the future, work towards opening a small business focused on nutrition and fitness.

15. Have you participated in any other sports?
The mostly play sports with my son, which is for entertainment only. I was a softball player and cheerleader in high school for a little while.

My friends Kristen, Chris, and Erin, I dont know what I would do without you. The three of you are my ROCKS, you each support me in different ways, but always know just what to say and when. I love you guys. My mom, thank you for raising me to be strong, loving and for showing me how to make things happen – the if you want something done, do it yourself mentality. Kelley Tyan – words cant describe what you have given to me. You are admirable, your strength and courage is contagious – you are the definition of a hero. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the work and support that you have given to me. Shannon Dickieson – I look forward to the many other competitions we do together, this is just the first of many Sunshine! Get ready, this journey has just begun.

17. Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies – I am afraid that I don’t have any particular hobbies. My favorite things to do are to spend time with Nathaniel, family and friends. I like to just get up and go. No plans on exactly where, but just go and see where we end up. Any opportunity to take a chance, make a memory or create an experience would be a hobby of mine.

18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
The biggest challenge that may keep me from reaching my fitness goals would be from not knowing how to balance life. Family, Work and Fitness. Family always comes first, its just determining a balance between it all.

19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
The obstacles that I have overcome to be where I am is letting go of my fear. I can attempt just about anything now.

20. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
