1. What made you want to compete?
In 2010 I tipped the scales at 250lbs (well that is what it was when i stopped weighing myself), two years into my journey after losing 80lbs I decided that I wanted to step on the stage for not only myself but for all those out there who have ever been told that its impossible, for those that have lost hope, for those that are lost and confused. For all the single moms out there who struggle every day, who have lost everything…I want to let them know that its NEVER TOO LATE!! I started training for the stage in april 2012, have since lost and additional 40lbs and stepped on the stage the first time at Fitness Atlantic. I am proud to say that ANYTHING is possible when you put you mind, body and soul into it and when you NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!

2. What do you do to stay inspired?
I look at my children, my family, my friends and my supporters. I look back at the struggle of losing everything, of being faced with having my life cut short by obesity. These things alone keep me pushing every single day. The knowing that I am helping others make their dreams REALITY is a powerful thing. Seeing my children paying attention to their health and wellness is going allow them to pay it forward also and live long healthy lives. With each step that I take, I see inspiration.

3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
Fitness Atlantic 2014 and plan on Fitness Atlantic 2015 🙂

4. Who got you started?
Josette Puig

5. Who do you look to for help now?
My team is incredible!!! I have been blessed to be able to partner with Shannon Petralito as my coach for the stage and Michelle O’Toole for the training of my legs and back. Heck after losing 120lbs there are issues with skin that most dont have lol Both of these women have been patient with me, have guided me, have supported me when I thought that “it wasnt happening”. The both know how to push me to dig deeper than I dug yesterday. I love them dearly and thank them for being not only my coach and trainer, but also my dear friends.

6. Where do you usually workout?
At home!! I have lost 120lbs in my home gym with at home fitness programs by Beachbody. I have used their program Body Beast for nearly 20 months to prepare for this show! My posing is out of Power House gym in Plymouth Ma and my legs are trained at Anytime Fitness Grafton Ma.

7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)

8. What are your most noticeable results?
My entire body lol…over the past few months however my most noticeable results are my entire upper body. However, the last 12 weeks my legs have had improvements that I never imagined! Has it been easy…NO but so worth it!!

9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
it has changed it a million times over. I was lost before fitness! depressed, confused, sad…obese! Losing 120lbs has allowed me to live a life of activity! It has shown me how to love myself, how to be has allowed me to evolve from the inside out! Fitness has open the doors for me to spread HOPE to those that have none and to spread the message of NEVER GIVE UP!!!! Anything is possible when YOU believe in YOU…

10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
Well now that the weight has been lost its all about gaining muscle and fighting gravity of skin 🙂 I want to continue to build my legs, glutes and hamstrings along with maturing the muscle in my upper body.

11. Describe your diet.
I eat 6x a day, protein at every meal. I am gluten and dairy free for nearly two years and it has been the biggest aid in my skin tightening. I love my gluten free oats, brown rice tortilla, avocado and egg whites!! I keep it simple…one ingredient foods combined to make a well balanced meal.

12. What does your workout schedule look like?
I lift 6 days a week and do low impact cardio, specifically the recumbent bike. Because I had back surgury when I was 17 I have to be really careful with the high impact cardio. The heavier the weights the better!!!

13. What do you do for a living?
I am a Independent Beachbody Coach and also a Technical Service Engineer for Siemens

14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
To be able to retire from corporate America to be able to continue to help others on their health and wellness journey. I also want to get involved in motivational speaking focusing on Being Bigger than Your Excuses!

15. Have you participated in any other sports?
growing up I played softball and volleyball

16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
First of all I would like to thank my two sons Joshua and Jordan who have been my biggest source of inspiration and have been my cheerleaders through this entire journey. Being a single mom isnt the easiest job in the world, but these two blessings have made this journey even that much sweeter. I would also like to thank my family who have supported me every step of the way. The never said to me “its just one bite”, they have loved, respected and encouraged me each and every day to DREAM BIG and make those dreams REALITY. I would also like to thank my coach Shannon Petralito. Shannon, you have been a blessing in my life for so many reasons. You get know how I am thinking even before I tell you. You understand the every day struggle, not just with fitness and nutrition but with LIFE! I will be forever grateful for all that you have brought to my life and for the friendship that we have developed. To my trainer Michelle O’Toole, from the moment we met I knew that our bond was special. Not many people can double over in pain from laughter during leg workouts. You have pushed me further than I have ever imagined. You have cheered me on when I was in pain and my hip didnt want to move. You have been there for me not only in the gym but in my everyday life. I Love you both and know that we have a brilliant future together. I would also like to thank Josette Puig who helped me see that this vision was possible. I am grateful for all that we have accomplished together and all the lessons that were learned. To all of my supporters…you have no idea how much your comments, likes and messages mean to me. YOU keep me going, YOU inspire me!!! Thank you thank you Thank you!!! Remember…ANYTHING is possible when you NEVER GIVE UP!!!

17. Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies include anything sports related. I love the NY Giants!!! Watching the games with my boys and my dad are some of the best days of my life.

18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
Challenges appear every single day. However I look at them as speed bumps throughout the journey. These challenges build character! I am a single mother who works full time so “time” is a huge factor, but also an excuse, its me and my boys! their father is not involved so everything falls on my shoulders. I am out of the house every day for nearly 12 hours at a time so prepping all of my meals is vital. When I decided to change my life 4 years ago I promised myself that there would be no more excuses! I also had disc L4-L5 removed when I was 17, which has caused me to have limited range of motion in my right hip due to the guarding that my core does to stabilize my body. We work the best we can with this “challenge” when working my legs. Another huge challenge is skin, with losing 120lb the skin has to go somewhere!! We work very hard to keep my diet gluten and dairy free to help improve the elasticity.

19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
Obstacles…how many there have been!!! I have overcome divorce, bankruptcy, moving a dozen times in 12 years, searching for pennies in my couch so that I could buy milk for my kids. I have overcome a debilitating back injury and fibromyalgia that took the world as I knew away. I have over come being an obese, lost, depressed, confused, hopeless, fearful woman who didnt know how to love herself. I have overcome turning to alcohol and food to fill the void that was left inside. Through fitness and clean eating I have overcome this all…I have not only transformed my insides but also my outsides.

20. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
I would like to add that dreams are not meant to live in your head, they are not meant to only be alive when you lay down to sleep. Dreams are meant to become REALITY with hard work, dedication, time and faith. When you choose to put yourself first in your life you make those around you better. When you choose to NEVER GIVE UP you spread HOPE!!! I am on a mission in life…to support, motivate, encourage, inspire and LOVE people back to LIFE through health and wellness. To let them know that its NEVER TOO LATE to become the person that you always wanted to be or the person that you lost!!
