1. What made you want to compete?
I wanted to compete because I am very goal-oriented and needed something to work for to keep me on track and to take it to the next level. I gave birth to twins 3 years ago and one year ago I decided enough was enough and to start living a healthier lifestyle. Training for a competition has created so many healthy habits that I truly believe everyone with a similar goal should train for at least one as well.
2. What do you do to stay inspired?
I had so much positive responses after my first competition at Fitness Atlantic in April 2014 from women that I inspired especially moms that it became more of a reason why to do another show. I have seen 2 good friends already train and compete in a WBFF show this summer and fall that are moms and were inspired by what I had done. That’s what keeps me inspired.
3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
My first and only show I have competed in thus far was WBFF Fitness Atlantic in April 2014 and placed 6th in Fitness Diva Short. I will be competing in 2 weeks in WBFF New England on November 8th.
4. Who got you started?
Two-time World Bikini Champion Lindsay Messina! Love her!!!
5. Who do you look to for help now?
Lindsay Messina and the other Fitness Divas.
6. Where do you usually workout?
I trained for my first show strictly in my basement. Now I train at the YMCA in my town because I have the option to bring my kids to the child watch while I workout.
7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)
I use Beverly International Muscle Provider for my Whey protein and take a multi-vitamin, CLAs, CoQ10, and Vitamin C.
8. What are your most noticeable results?
The first time I trained I really didnt know what to focus on but after my show I began focusing more on my legs, glutes, and building out my shoulders more.
9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Fitness has become my passion. I was athletic my whole life but still had misconceptions about how I needed to exercise to stay fit. I was afraid of weights and all I wanted to do was cardio because in Highschool I was told I was meaty and had thunder thighs. Since I have become more emersed in fitness and the industry I have completely changed my vision of what fit looks like. I believe the WBFF shows off the most healthy-looking, attractive, and attainable physique that many women would strive for or be inspired by.
10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
My first goal is to earn my pro card. I would like to get more involved in fitness modeling and get published in magazines and other prints to hopefully reach and inspire many others.
11. Describe your diet.
I like to have a lot of variety in my diet up until about 4 weeks out from my show. I get protein and green veggies with every meal and keep a consistent amount of starches daily to keep fueled for my tough workouts.
12. What does your workout schedule look like?
Monday- Legs Tuesday- Upper Body Wednesday-Shoulders and Abs Thursday-rest Friday-Legs and glutes Saturday- Plyo Sunday-Rest
I do cardio 5x a week currently as I am getting close to a show.
13. What do you do for a living?
My husband and I have an online business in the travel industry which has given us complete time and money freedom.
14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
My number one goal is to be the best role-model for my children and lead a well-balanced family life.
15. Have you participated in any other sports?
Gymnastics, soccer, and softball in Highschool and ran 1/2 marathons and did triathalons in college.
16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
I want to thank my number one support, my husband Travis. I want to thank my family and friends for cheering me on and getting inspired by me to make healthier choices themselves!
17. Do you have any hobbies?
I love doing jigsaw puzzles in the winter months although i haven’t done one since the twins were born because I’d probably have half the pieces go missing. Now we love to travel as a family. We just purchased an RV which has been a dream of ours to travel the country with our kids and parents and create memories and peak life experiences together!
18. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
The challenges I faced have been surrounding the amount of travel we do and amount of social situations I am in. I have become quite an expert at packing premade food in plastic baggies for long weekends away. I like to make protein pancakes for the road, I buy frozen green beans and broccoli and use those as the freezer bags to keep the rest of the food cold in the cooler, and pack canned chicken.
19. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
The biggest obstacle was in my mind. Once I realized that I’m the only one in control of how hard I workout or what I put in my mouth it got much easier. The coolest part about this industry is that ANYONE can do it if they put their mind to it and make that decision. I don’t care if they are 300 lbs overweight, or if they are 20lbs. underweight. It’s all about the right plan for each individual and that leads me to how important it is to have a coach along the way. Find someone that has what you want, do what they do, and you can get what they’ve got.
