1. What made you want to compete?
When I started my fitness journey in January, I had no desire or plans of ever doing a fitness show because I never thought I would be able to do it. I had a personal goal to lose 20 pounds in 13 weeks and I did it! The deadline of my 13 weeks was around the April 2013 show and my coach at the time, Nicole Costa insisted I did it for the experience. I’m glad I took her advice! Competing to me is all about competing with myself. Pushing myself like I never have before. Plus getting beautified the day of makes it all worth it!
2. What do you do to stay inspired?
I think of my daughter. She has been through more things in her life at the age of 7 than anyone ever will in their entire life. She is a true soldier and seeing everything she has gone through and everything she still has to go through, has given me the strength to never give up.
3. What shows have you already been in or plan to be in in the future?
My first show was the Fitness Atlantic in April 2013, and I also competed in June in Boston. Even though everyone told me I should take a break, I am competing on November 9th in Providence, RI.
4. Who got you started?
The beautiful Nicole Costa!
5. Who do you look to for help now?
When I feel like I’m going lose my marbles I immediately send a text to Dania Schnell or Elizabeth Ortiz. Dania and I did a show together in April and I can’t wait to share the stage with her again! Elizabeth is competing for the first time in November and if anyone knows about prepping for a show, you can imagine the conversations. And last but certainly not least, I can’t forget the beautiful Kelly Palumbo. She has helped me these past few weeks and I have never felt better.
6. Where do you usually workout?
Weight training: Golds Gym in Pawtucket/East Greenwich
Cardio/Full Body: Unleashed in Cranston RI with Robert Foster
Body Rock RI: Build a Booty!
7. Do you use any suppliments? If so, what ones (brands, names, etc)
If I use any supplements I use Advocare products.
8. What are your most noticeable results?
We are our own worst critics so I honestly don’t know. But lately everyone has been telling me my legs have come a long way. Considering I’ve never had great legs or any type of a shape to my backside, I’ll take it! I never take any pictures because I like to see the before and after. I can’t wait to compare April to November!
9. Has fitness changed your life? If so, how?
Absolutely!! It wasn’t until I saw my before and after for the first time that I believed everything I was doing was actually working. I always loved working out and healthy foods, I just never had any discipline or self control. Once I finished college and had the time to focus on myself, I haven’t stopped. I never knew doing something for myself would impact so many others around me. Being told: “you’ve inspired me” is the greatest compliment I can ever receive.
10. What personal fitness goals have you set for yourself?
To be stronger than I was the week before and to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Next year my goal is to do a tough mudder!
11. Describe your diet.
Egg whites, oats, chicken, tilapia, tuna, romaine, spinach, asparagus, cucumbers, love coffee with stevia and lots of gum!!
12. What does your workout schedule look like?
Weight Training 4 days: Chest, Legs, Back, Arms and Shoulders
Cardio: HIT or Class at Unleashed: 4 days
Saturday Morning: Build a Booty!
13. What do you do for a living?
Besides being a mother, I bartend 3-4 nights a week.
14. What are your personal non-fitness goals?
To continue my education by going to Law school.
15. Have you participated in any other sports?
In middle school I played basketball and ran track. In high school I was a cheerleader.
16. Here you can mention your family/thank you’s.
This journey has taught me so much more than I could have ever imagined. I could have never made it where I am today without the support of those few close friends who always believed in me. My oldest sister and youngest brother who have been pushing me everyday in the gym. My parents who continue to believe in me even though they will NEVER understand why I have a food scale. And of course, my daughter Adryanna who is so understanding and is my number 1 supporter. Her stage walk is better than mine!
17. What are challenges that you face that may keep you from reaching your fitness goals?
Being a single mother is my biggest challenge. But somehow, someway I always get it done. Challenges have made me stronger. Bring it on!
18. What obstacles have you overcome to be where you are?
The biggest obstacle I have overcome is to stop doubting myself. Results aren’t going to happen overnight. Keep working hard and doing what you’re supposed to do, and in the end everything will work out.
19. Is there anything else you would like to add that you think we’ve missed?
Life is too short to live in unhappiness and to always wonder. Do what you want to do and do what makes you happy. Forget everything and everyone that doesn’t benefit your life and bring out the best in you. Don’t ever stop chasing your dreams, and have faith in yourself to do the “impossible.”
